In the tradition of singers like
Barbara Cook and Betty Buckley, INGRID SAXON vamps, struts and pouts
through a number of different style songs from Broadway show numbers to
classic pop tunes to a couple of more modern melodies in her new
collection, A Lot of Livin' to Do. Backed by just a piano (played
excellently by Paul Trueblood), Ingrid's rich vibrato-laden voice is
playful when it wants to be, and longing when it has to be. She
beautifully handles the obligatory period pieces like Kurt Weill's "One
Touch of Venus' and Lawrence/Gross's "Tenderly", and the required
Broadway showstoppers like Bye Bye Birdie's title cut made into a medley
with Funny Girl's "Don't Rain on My Parade." Also, there are some
interesting choices such as another medley of "Downtown" and "I Know a
Place" ‚ two Petula Clark hits ‚ and Leiber and Stoller's "Feelin' Too
Good Today Blues."
. . . this soap actress (As the World Turns and Ryan's Hope, the last
soap I watched religiously) does a great performance that feels very
intimate, thanks to her charm and minimal accompaniment.
